Motorist Life Saved at Scene of Motor Vehicle Crash
Pompton Avenue and Myrtle Avenue

On Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 4:46 pm, police, fire and EMS responded to the scene of a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Pompton Avenue and Myrtle Avenue. Upon arrival, police found one of the vehicles off the roadway. The operator was being pulled from his car by a local business man. He was not breathing and in cardiac arrest. Officers immediately initiated CPR, and AED protocols. Shocks were provided. Cedar Grove Ambulance and Rescue Squad along with Fire Department personnel arrived. The patient care was transferred to EMS, and he was subsequently transported to Mountainside Hospital. The ambulance personal regained the patients pulse and breathing in route. It was last reported that he was lucid and alert, and today we were told, expected to recover. The cause of the crash is under investigation however it’s suspected that the victim experienced a medical episode prior to the crash. No other injuries were reported. Cedar Grove Police Lt. John Kennedy, Officer John Smigelsky, and Officer Joseph Ligas were first on scene.
