Police Seeking to Identify Theft/Credit Card Fraud Suspects

The Cedar Grove Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying two suspects wanted in connection with the theft of a pocketbook and the subsequent use of the victim’s credit cards at multiple locations at the Willowbrook Mall on Thursday, August 20th.  The pocketbook theft occurred at 5:21 p.m. while the victim was shopping at the Foodtown Supermarket on Pompton Avenue.  Store surveillance video shows Suspect #1, a younger female, taking the victim’s pocketbook from her shopping cart when the victim turned her back.  Suspect #1 can then be seen immediately leaving the store in the company of Suspect #2, an older female carrying a toddler.  Shortly after discovering the theft, the victim contacted her credit card companies and was informed the cards had just been used at three different locations at the mall.  Officers responded to the mall area but were unable to locate the suspects.  In addition, video from the Foodtown also revealed the pair was traveling in a large black Sport Utility Vehicle believed to Chevrolet.  Any person recognizing the suspects is asked to contact Detective Michael Tower at 973-239-4100.

The Cedar Grove Police Department requests that the public report all suspicious activity observed, as it occurs.  The police department telephone number is 973-239-4100 and in case of emergency 9-1-1.  All reports are investigated and all assistance is appreciated.

All persons charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
