Verizon Store Employees Charged with Theft of Smart Phones

          The Cedar Grove Police Department recently charged two Verizon Store employees with the theft of numerous smart phones taken from the Verizon Store on Pompton Avenue.  The two defendants, Jonathan Butler, 26, of Verona and Luis O. Robles, 31, of Paterson were charged following a detective bureau investigation initiated on September 2, 2013 after the store owners reported numerous phones missing from inventory.  A subsequent review of store surveillance video led to the identification of Butler as a suspect in the thefts and further investigation led to the identification of Robles as a second suspect.  The investigation culminated in theft charges being brought against both subjects.  Butler was charged on September 3rd. with the theft of 45 phones having an aggregate value of $27,000.00.  Robles was charged on September 4th. with the theft of 6 phones having an aggregate value of $4,000.00.  Both defendants were processed at police headquarters and released pending a September 12, 2013 Superior Court Arraignment in Newark.  D/Sgt. John Kennedy and Det. Michael Tower were the investigating officers.   *******************
