Cedar Grove Police Department
Press Release
On Thursday, May 30, 2013, police investigated the armed robbery of the Burger King restaurant on Pomtpon Avenue.  Police were initially alerted to the robbery at 10:54 p.m. when a passing motorist contacted 9-1-1 reporting she had just pulled into the restaurant parking lot observed a subject wearing a mask standing behind the counter holding a handgun.  Responding officers discovered that a robbery had occurred and the suspect had already fled the store and was last observed running south on Pompton Avenue.  Subsequent investigation revealed that the male robbery suspect, wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and black mask, entered the store brandishing a black handgun and announced a robbery.  The suspect then demanded that an employee open the cash registers at which time an as yet undetermined amount of cash was stolen before the man fled the scene.  Officers then conducted an area search for the suspect with negative results.  Detectives also responded, processed the scene for physical evidence, and are conducting a follow-up investigation.  None of the employees were injured in the robbery.  Any person that may witnessed suspicious activity in the Burger King area around the time of the robbery is asked to contact detectives at 973-239-4100.
The Cedar Grove Police Department requests that the public report all suspicious activity observed, as it occurs.  The police department telephone number is 973-239-4100 and in case of emergency 9-1-1.  All reports are investigated and all assistance is appreciated.
