Cedar Grove Press Release

March 7, 2013

On Thursday, March 7th., police charged Kenneth D. Daniels, 27, of East Orange with several offenses including eluding police and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.  The incident leading to the charges began at 7:27 a.m. when Ptl. Michael Grasso observed the involved vehicle, a 2004 Porsche Cayenne, travelling north on Pompton Avenue at Stevens Avenue and attempted to stop the car for observed violations.  It was at that time that the operator of the Porsche, subsequently identified as Daniels, refused to stop and actively attempted to elude the officer, operating at a high rate of speed.  The officer discontinued his attempts to stop the vehicle after losing sight of it at the Route 23/46/80 interchange.  A check of the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) computer revealed the Porsche had been reported stolen in Little Ferry on February 13, 2013.  Following a State Police Emergency Network (SPEN) broadcast of the incident, the Clifton Police Department observed the stolen Porsche and ultimately stopped the vehicle after it became disabled on Rt. 21, and Daniels was arrested following a foot pursuit.  The defendant was served with his charges, which included reckless driving and driving while suspended, in Clifton where he is being held on charges brought by the Clifton Police. His arraignment on the Cedar Grove charges is scheduled for March 14th. at 9:00 a.m. in Newark.

The Cedar Grove Police Department requests that the public report all suspicious activity observed, as it occurs.  The police department telephone number is 973-239-4100 and in case of emergency 9-1-1.  All reports are investigated and all assistance is appreciated.

All persons charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
